Born
in Northern Ireland, Paul Brady has been
a part of the professional music scene for almost
four decades. He drew early inspiration from the traditional Irish music
of the mid-1960s. Paul’s
recording career began with a group called
The Johnstons, with whom he performed until the early 1970s
when he became a member of the Irish
folk band, Planxty. Eventually, Paul
began a highly successful solo career, and throughout the
1980s and early 1990s he released
five critically acclaimed albums. In February 2005, Paul
released Say What You Feel, his first studio album
in four years. Bonnie Raitt has recorded several of Paul's songs and made a vocal
appearance on the song “Doin'
It In The Dark”. Raitt has been
quoted as saying, “Paul Brady is
certainly one of the most underrated
of our brilliant singer/songwriters, and
his melodic sense is the best of anyone
I’ve heard. For me, where he’s
coming from – his music, lyrics,
and soul – are on a level of the
greatest songwriters.” Other professed admirers
of Paul's work include Bono and Bob Dylan,
who stated, “Some guys got it down,
Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, and Paul Brady,
my secret heroes."
Currently, Paul is enjoying success with the sensationally successful Celtic Woman project and the recently released CD/DVD combo set, which features his composition "The Island".
